Biography

Cal has been with Hertz Farm Management since 1984 as an Accredited Farm Manager and Real Estate Broker and serves as Chairman of the Grain Marketing Committee and as the Mason City Office Manager. Aside from his dedicated service to his clients, he stays active throughout his community and industry.

He co-authored the Standards and Ethics Course for the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and served on the Management Education Committee. He also served on the Conservation and Government Relations Committees of the Iowa Chapter. He has served as the Mason City Sunrise Rotary president, The Mason City Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee chairman and as the Deacon Chairman for his church.

Cal’s college career was indicative of his future successes. As a senior, he was honored as the Outstanding Senior Ag Student of the Nebraska chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, with the Outstanding Senior Award of the Gamma Sigma Delta Agricultural Honorary and won the Arthur von Bergen Memorial Award as the Outstanding Senior in the College of Agriculture. Since then, he has been a runner-up for the Zeneca Conservation Award, and in 1995, Cal was awarded the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Farm Manager of the Year.

He grew up on a grain and livestock farm near Stromsburg, Nebraska. Cal is married and has four children.
