Building a Family Legacy

If you ask Scott Brown how he got involved in owning farmland, he’ll tell you that it all started with a blind date. While studying to become a chemical engineer at Iowa State University, Brown’s roommate set him up on a date with his now wife Nancy Brown. Brown married Nancy in 1969 and it was from there that he not only started his journey with his new wife but also his investment in farmland.

The Iowa farmland market is showing signs of strength as we enter the fall harvest season.  As reported in August, land sales activity (the number of farms for sale and sold) is likely to pick up following harvest. The strongest values continue to be for top-quality farms with the most productive soils, solid fertility and drainage, and high ‘farm-ability’ (e.g., large and square fields, not an abundance of point rows, waterways/creeks/obstructions).
